“Brown University Alpert Medical School bestowed the special honor of Congratulations to the Honorable PM Sheikh Hasina for her recognition by the UN for the successful model of healthcare delivery through the unique model of 16,000 community clinics in Bangladesh. This UN-recognized innovative initiative has helped improve life expectancy and reduce infant and maternal mortality significantly in Bangladesh.

Dean and Senior Vice-President of Brown University Alpert Medical School, Dr. Mukesh Jain and Co-Director of Cardiovascular Research Fellowship and Diversity in Health Research Programs and Founding President of Health and Education for All (HAEFA) Bangladesh, Dr. Ruhul Abid handed over the Certificate of Congratulations to the Prime Minister at the Lotte Palace NY. They also discussed major healthcare delivery and implementation science programs of Brown University in Bangladesh in collaboration with the DGHS and MoHFW. Dr. Jain and Dr. Abid discussed plans for a proposed “Bangladesh-Brown Biomedical Research and Education Initiative.” PM Sheikh Hasina expressed her keen interest in the development of effective exchange programs with Brown University for capacity building in biomedical research and medical education in Bangladesh. She fondly remembered her visit and lecture at Brown in 1997 and expressed interest in further supporting future Bangladesh-Brown collaboration in biomedical research and students and faculty exchange.

Drs. Jain and Abid mentioned their recent participation, along with two senior faculty members, Drs. Rounds and Bharatramratnam in an International Seminar and Workshop on Capacity Building in Biomedical Research that was held in Dhaka in July this year. Prime Minister recognized an urgent need for the development of an effective biomedical research program and mentioned the significant achievement in agriculture through research and innovation since the independence of Bangladesh.”
